Remembering Eric Scott Miller

Remembering our dad Eric Scott Miller:

Our dad first volunteered for the soccer club in 2002.  He coached the Apple Jacks, the Giraffes, the Hurricanes, and the Rainbows for his daughter Jenna. He coached the Cheerios, Little Rainbows, and Thunder for his daughter Kelsey. As we got older, he became the team administrator for our travel teams: the Syosset Arsenal 96, the Syosset Sol, and the Syosset Jericho Fusion.  It was his great joy that he was able to keep so many of the girls on these teams together from childhood through high school, making lifelong friendships along the way.

Eric wanted to further assist the Syosset Soccer Club community, assisting and arranging tournaments, and joining the board in 2007 as a VP of Intramurals, and then as secretary and registrar.  He reimagined the U7/U8 developmental training program and initiated U9 pre-travel with other local clubs, while ensuring children at all skill levels had a place to play and grow in the sport of soccer.  He worked endless days and nights setting up team and field schedules, obtaining permits, handling merchandise orders, interfacing with other clubs, making sure our fields were ready for play, and running back and forth to the LIJSL office with each child's change in registration.  Eric became president of the soccer club in 2011, acting as club president for more than seven years. Under his leadership, the soccer club served thousands of children in the community.  Training and clinics expanded, and Syosset Soccer began its relationship with the New York Red Bulls.

Our dad made very good friends in the Syosset Soccer club. We are thankful for the coaches, parents, volunteers, and other leaders that made his involvement with the soccer club so enjoyable.

Our dad cared deeply about his community. We are happy that the Syosset Soccer Club brought him so much joy.

With much love,

His daughters Jenna and Kelsey, and his wife Laura
